News

Sorry about the delay, I had some RL events to deal with before I could properly finish of this contest. I would like everyone to vote for their top 5 favourites (in order of 1st to 5th) by posting a comment in the comments section of this journal. You have 2 weeks to get your votes in and if, no one ends up voting, we'll have to go with my picks (which I hope not).

Contest #1 Entries

If your entry is not here, then it hasn't been entered into the contest yet. You may re-enter a species from a previous species universe contest as long as it did not become canon for a planet. Comment here with your deviation to enter after submitting it to the group. We may automatically enter you here but re-entering will require commenting.

Submit your entries to the Contest Folder. We will move your species to their planet folder when they become canon.

Contest #1 Prizes

We would appreciate any donations to the prize list.

Information

The Species Universe is a project that brings together the creative minds of the #Species-Directory group to forge a collaborative, detailed universe filled with species created by the members. Species are selected to become canon in one of the 13 planets through contests and, every so often, a special round will appear that will have members contesting canon species against each other in various ways. To add to the challenge, each planet will be themed to give depth to the species created. The contest model was created by =pandemoniumfire

Contest #1 Information - Deadline: 15th April 2013

Theme: Create a species for the V planet

:bulletblue: This species can be plant, animal or other.
:bulletblue: The species must fit with the theme of V planet (link above)
:bulletblue: Provide 5 sentences about your species, either in the deviation or artist's comments.
:bulletblue: You DO NOT need to include the habitat/environment of this species (as there are none).
:bulletblue: You may create a habitat or environment and provide a basic description and/or images in the artist comments of your journal.
:bulletblue: You MUST use these deviations for your contest entry but you can alter to an extent. DO NOT alter the map in anyway except to show where the species is found.
:bulletblue: Further information can be found on the entry deviations but, again, you do not need to include habitat.

:bulletblack: 3 species are guaranteed to become canon after this contest. Depending on how many entries there are another few will be selected to become canon as well (will be hard to vote without a poll)
:bulletblack: Canon species will be found in their planet folders.
:bulletblack: A species becoming canon means it will be an Open Species (free for anyone to make one)
:bulletblack: Only the species creator has permission to make adoptables from their species or otherwise make a profit from their species. Anyone else, including the group, will need permission to make a profit from the species.
:bulletblack: Once canon, the species CAN NOT be removed from that status.
:bulletblack: Entering this contest means you agree to these conditions.

The Winners

Before we start, please note your prize givers to receive your prizes. Preferably link them back to this journal to prove your claim.

Lets start with the literature category (it's the smallest one);

Lit 1st - The JackThe Jack

Each jack possesses dark markings around each of its eyes, over its nose, and across its stomach; though no two members of the species possess markings that are exactly alike, and it is common for one of these creatures to have spots, stripes or even a combination of the two as well. Jacks are most often dark in colouration, generally black or warm brown. Somewhat rare and coveted are reddish and orange variations, with albinism occurring in approximately 0.009% of the population.

In their infant stage, these creatures average one foot in length, and are capable of moving comfortably on all fours or their hind legs. They are natura

Because we didn't have a second entry, I picked a visual entry which had a load of writing and could have easily been a literature entry (there was a serious amount of work pu into this one)

Lit 2nd -

Now onto the visual category and we'll start with second (the one chosen by the group);

Vis 2nd -

And now for the admin pick (which is first) and was a very hard pick. There were so many others who could have easily gotten first but I prefer a single winner. So here is first place visual winner;

Vis 1st -

I'm amazed at how well thought out all your creatures are! It was particularly hard to judge when you all took your ideas in different ways but that is the best part and I always love seeing your creativity and originality in species creating :heart:

----

There was only one literature entry so they are the default winner.

Deadline: November 12th 2012 (midnight)

Theme:

Design a species that incorporates pumpkins in any way, be it colouring, biology, behaviour, habitat, etc.

This means that the species could look like a pumpkin, eat pumpkins as a primary food source, be a pumpkin or maybe even live in them. It's your choice how you wish to use the pumpkins.

How to Enter for Visual category:

Simply submit a visual creature concept or reference of your species with a blurb about this species. This blurb must be at least 3 sentences long and contain something about their biology and behaviour.

This means you need to enter a picture, at the very least, with 3 sentences of info about it.

How to Enter for Literature category:

Simply submit a very detailed reference of your species. No visual aspects are allowed in this category so you must use only words, no images, to describe your species. Info must have a section on biology, habitat, diet and behaviour.

Judging

The admins will decide upon the 1st place winner of each category and voting will decide the 2nd place winner.

Prizes:

1st for Visual:

I enjoy making different dragon species that are variants of typical western dragons. What would be a good category for this type of creature?

If they include reference information, the winged or beast folders are best. If you don't include reference information, it's best to submit them to the general arts folder. Use your best judgement, I can always move them later.
